The employment of 5,000 youths into the State Civil Service has been approved by the Rivers State Executive Council.
The approval was given during its meeting, which was presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike and held at Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
Briefing newsmen after the approval meeting, Mr. Sylvanus Nwankwo, the State Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment said a certain age target was set for the job limit and the youth must not be more than 35 years.
He said there are existing vacancies in the civil service needing Lawyers, Engineers, Technicians, Medical Doctors and other fields of profession that these youths will fill.
Also addressing journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim said the recruitment drive undertaken by the Wike administration would cushion the employment gap in the state.
Nsirim also said part of the approval is for those workers from the level that were asked to stay back at home during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown are to resume back to work on Monday 2, November, 2020.
Bars are also asked to be opened while night clubs are to remain closed.
